What: A yoga therapy counseling group that aims to assist clients in integrating their mind and body through past and present experiences. Through this group, clients will gain a mindfulness perspective of individual experiences and understand their own reactions through the mind, body, and soul. These goals will be met through the following objectives:
Clients will increase their capacity to be with their emotions and sensations without becoming overwhelmed or shut down
Clients can nonjudgmentally observe their thoughts, emotions, and sensations, becoming more aware of their individual experiences
Clients will gain greater balance in the nervous system
Clients will enhance their felt sense of safety and empowerment
Clients will gain knowledge on the impact of trauma on the body and mind
Clients will strengthen their connection to their intuition and inner strength
Clients will gain a felt sense of opening and gentleness towards themself and others
Disclaimer: This is not a yoga class but instead yoga incorporated into a group therapy setting. This is a structured 6-week group that aims to accomplish the above goals and objectives. The structure includes psychoeducation, therapy in a group setting, mindfulness in meditation, orienting and centering interventions, conscious breathing, vagus nerve stimulation, warming up the body, mindfulness in movement, and integrative rest. Clients will be encouraged to engage in all interventions, but will never be forced to engage in a practice that does not feel right for them. Anything presented that does not feel right for any individual can be modified or skipped. Adults of any age who have experienced subjective trauma are welcome and encouraged to join. Clients with mobility issues or other sensitivities are also encouraged to join and accommodations can be made if we are made aware ahead of time.
This group is not for you if:
You are a minor
You have not experienced trauma as defined above
You feel unable to hold space for others in a group setting
You are unwilling to engage in movement-based interventions entirely
Equipment: Any equipment necessary will be provided, though you are welcome to bring a personal yoga mat or other equipment to assist you in movement interventions. Bringing water or a beverage of choice is recommended.
